Description

This is the finished version of my latest commission! :D Wow. It looks lovely. :aww: Can't wait to give this to my friend!

This is going to be a wedding gift for my friends' friend's bride-to-be. Confusing, I know. :XD: She is a Geo-physicist and absolutely loves rocks and stones! As well as dragons, thankfully for me. :D I had two weeks to create two dragons that would suit the couple, knowing only that she was a geo-physicist and her favorite colors were blue, turquoise, and red. I hope I did a good job reflecting as much as I could for her! The wedding is Saturday but my friend and I are going to print this and get it framed before then. :D

I did a lot of new things on this, as always. :XD: I combined a few different shading techniques, and I'm quite pleased with the result. :) Not only do I have detailed shading and lighting, but vague as well, and the combination of both makes me very happy.

The crystals were pretty difficult. :XD: Spent a lot of time trying to get the right "glow" down. There are probably a few things I will touch up tomorrow morning before I print it out to get it framed, but for now I will consider this piece finished and I need to get away from my computer for a bit. :XD: I've spent most of my free time here working on it, so yeah. Break time! :D

Hope you enjoy it! Please, this image is not for download, nor any form of free use, as it was a commission! Let's hope the soon to be wed couple enjoys it! :D

Edit: Uploaded it from a PNG to a Jpeg because I touched it up and it's a huge file. :XD:

Okay, I'm busy, but this new one is simply so gorgeous that I have to react. I'll just do it while eating breakfast! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>

First, the picture as a whole. I love the entire composition! The cave surrounding them gives it a nice frame, making you focus on the symmetrical pose of the dragons. (I like symmetry a lot <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/m/m…" width="15" height="15" alt=":meow:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="578" title="Meow :3"/> ) So, the composition is great and does what a great composition is supposed to do <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>
Then, the dragons. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h…" width="15" height="13" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="357" title="Heart"/>
ReiRei, you are improving each drawing you make - and with this one, you have improved incredibely much. Their anatomy is great (the only tiny flaw that I can detect is that the female dragon's front right paw might be a bit too short, but that's hardly noticeable). I love how the blue dragon's anatomy and muscles are so elegant and feminine, while the male dragon's anatomy is stronger and musclier. Even the different types of horns and spikes reflect feminine and masculine, that's great! You are a great example on how to show the gender differences when drawing dragons, instead of those people that draw eyelashes for for female dragons. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let…" width="15" height="15" alt=":p" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="394" title=":p (Lick)"/>
Their wings look great!! Even though it's a complicated pose, they're perfectly drawn. I love the contrast between the colours in the male dragon, his orange wings are beautiful <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> The female dragon's chestplates are gorgeous, with that texture. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> And I love her markings!! And they glow <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/m/m…" width="15" height="15" alt=":meow:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="578" title="Meow :3"/> Me wuvs glowy stuff. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/m/m…" width="15" height="15" alt=":meow:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="578" title="Meow :3"/> <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h…" width="15" height="13" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="357" title="Heart"/>
Their eyes are also great. I'm sure that on your huge file they look even better, but I can already see that they are splendid! So vivid <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>
As for the colours...
I'm an absolute fan of the male dragon's colours. I love these contrasts between grey, orange and purple. I already said it when you've drawn Dumaï, but I'll say it again: you have a rare and useful gift of being able to combine whatever colours, and make it look natural!! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/x/x…" width="15" height="15" alt=":XD:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="93" title="XD"/> The female dragon's colours are also very pretty, I love purple and blue. I think, however, her wings might have looked even better when there was some more contrast (like, instead of dark blue, purple). But her glowings make up for that!! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>
Also, nice that you can find the colours of the dragons back in the crystals. That gives a special touch to this picture and is pleasing to the eye!
Scales and lighting shizz!
Your scales are better than ever, and it's thanks to your better than ever lighting skills <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=":D (Big Grin)"/> Seriously, you've done an amazing job on lighting here. I love how you sort of divide the lighting amongst the scales, instead of making one white line. It makes it so much more realistic and gives the scales a huge amount of depth. On the front paws of the dragoness, you have done this the most beautiful way - her paw feels very 3D!!! Also, on the hard nose scales the lighting is just gorgeous; And I love how her glowings actually give light, and have consequences on the lighting of her scales!! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=":D (Big Grin)"/> So great job, better than ever, really <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>
Background and atmosphere
Both the background and the pose assure a very intimate and lovely atmosphere. I love how the dragons touch each other so gentle and loving. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> The crystals make the piece magical!!!
However, I've always wondered why your backgrounds are so blurry. I know it's a technique to focus on the main part of the painting (the dragons), but in my opinion it might be a liiiiittle bit sharper. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> And the background can have more "influence" on the dragons. With lighting of the crystals you've done a great job!! But for example, the waterfall - how does it effect the dragoness? You get what I mean? If you work on this, your characters will be more "in" the background instead of "on" the background.
But that's of course just some small piece of advice, and it's like the only thing I could give you advice about... Because this drawing just rocks. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> Really, you have outdone yourself, and I hope the wedding couple will be so happyy!! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="23" height="23" alt=":w00t:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="97" title="w00t!"/> But I know they will, because man, anybody who isn't happy to get SUCH a beautiful drawing on their wedding, is crazy <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>
Conclusion
You are better than ever, you have outdone yourself in a way every artist should admire!! I'm looking forward to your next pieces, because you're improving with the speed of light, darling. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> All the effort you've done for this definitely pays off, 'cause it's gorgeous. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h…" width="15" height="13" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="357" title="Heart"/> <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h…" width="38" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="160" title="Hug"/>

PS: this was originally a comment, but because it got so long, I made it a critique. I hope you don't mind. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":blushes:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="347" title="Blush"/>
